The origin of this project is a watercolor in an artbook i had bought at Frick collection, representing a curved and colorful street in New York. After some researches I located the street in Greenwich Village. Some details come from my imagination (or my desires) as the mosaic of INVADER at the entrance of the street (I really like the work of this street-artist) but I know that one day there was really a collage by @phoebenewyork on the base of a lamppost..
The opening shots of Cyndi Lauper’s video for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” were shot on Gay Street in September 1983.
NB : The street’s name does not refer to the LGBT character of Greenwich Village, or to any other LGBT issues for that matter. The name may come from a family named Gay who owned land or lived there in colonial times.
